As far as I know, they work well in this application. Horn players don't like having their sound reflected right back at their heads any more than a trumpet or trombone would care for it , but placing one of these several feet back and directing the main reflection toward the audience rather than straight back at the player worked extremely well.
The horn player liked it, the audience liked it, and the recording was much better for it. This stand is very well designed, adjusting very easily between a height just off of the floor to something which a seated woodwind player could position behind their head.
Having said all of this, I must complain about the price. Like almost everything Wenger makes, this device is far more expensive than it needs to be.
It is shaped slightly differently, but otherwise is essentially the same size shield as the Wenger. It doesn't include a stand, but mounts on any standard microphone stand.
In conclusion, if money is not so important as simply obtained results, the Wenger will work very well. I give it three stars, however, as it is at least twice as expensive as it should be.
